I hope to share some of my creative work and inspiration here, as well as a little of my day to day life. I hope you enjoy my musings!
Zandra RhodesToday I found out that one of my favourite fashion designers and all-round creatives,
Zandra Rhodes, is releasing a collection of fabrics with Westminster/ FreeSpirit Fabrics!
I'm a little behind on this news, as the entire collection was actually previewed at Spring Quilt Market back in May 2014, but nevertheless, I'm very excited!!
Many years ago whilst I was working at Reverse Garbage in Sydney, I was super-lucky enough to find some pieces of her fabric mixed in with lots of designer samples and off-cuts. The fabric was a cream coloured voile with a native american influenced design featuring feathers printed on it in mint greens and pinks. I loved the fabric, and I went on to make a top which I wore many times and became a bit of a favourite. I no longer have that top but the quality of the design made a lasting impression on me.
The collection is called Lace Mountain and will be in stores August 2014.
Here is what Zandra has to say about the collection (via a press release by Coats) :
“My inspiration comes from nature, and my mother who sewed and made dresses at home. So my style is interpreted in my own, very special and personal way – whether it’s “Frilly Flowers” or “Zigzag Stars”, my magical meandering wiggles invade all the patterns. For this collection I have delved into my vast Rhodes repertoire of wiggles, stitching, frills and flowers to specially produce wonderful memories that can be magically sewn together in a myriad of ways. Lace Mountain represents memories of Australia’s Ayers Rock (The “Lace Mountain”), and the Spinifex Grass that grows around it. The way the imagery is interpreted is influenced by my mother and my sewing background.”
I'm looking forward to perhaps purchasing a few yards and whipping up another top for myself, or perhaps a dress or tunic? I think they'd also look fantastic mixed up in a quilt using fabrics from other bold FreeSpirit designers such as Anna Maria Horner or Kaffe Fassett.
